Simplifying tournated management with seamless UX

About Tournated
Tournated is a Latvia-based SaaS to manage everything starting from the league setup to the athletes' data, through a single dashboard. Their vision is to provide a smooth digital experience when managing sports competitions at scale, as they have a user base that continues to grow, and they have run thousands of tournaments so far.
When Tournated approached us, they needed a complete redesign to match their fast growth. Their product was powerful, but the user experience lagged. They needed a more modern, intuitive interface with the potential to work both on a desktop or mobile device, and at the same time to make organizing, training, and competing easier for every person to organize, train, and compete. It needed to appear clean, be simple to navigate, and be global.

The Problem
Tournated began rapidly expanding in sports and federations; however, its product experience could not keep pace. The user got lost, the admins were frozen, and the system was out of shape. These gaps began to damage interaction and prevent international growth.
- Unclear Federation Hierarchy: The platform didn’t show a clear link between global, national, and local structures, confusing both admins and athletes.
- Complicated Club Management: Clubs had no single view to manage teams, roles, and participation across tournaments, which caused miscommunication and manual work.
- Outdated UX for Athletes: Players struggled to find schedules, results, or rankings due to disconnected flows, making the app frustrating to use.
The Solution
We completely redesigned the experience of Tournated to make complex operations simpler and provide each of the users with a custom journey. In the case of federation admins to young athletes, everyone now has precisely what they require at the right time.
- Unified Structure for Federations: We created a transparent, scaled hierarchy between international, national, and local that reduces the scope of any organization, adjusting and simplifying it within the scope.
- Smart Club Dashboard: Â Clubs now have a single space to handle members, roles, and team activities, reducing chaos and making operations more efficient.
- Focused Athlete Interface: Players can now follow the games, monitor their results, and check the stands, increasing the daily active user rates and encouraging individual responsibility.

Design Process
We have collaborated with Tournated stakeholders and actual users, starting with federations and going right up to athletes, to make every step of the platform purposeful and clear.

UX Research & Design Artifacts
We interviewed actual users, sportsmen, management, and heads of federations, and observed them using the system. This enabled us to view what was not clear and what needed to be altered.
What we found:
Hard to use: 70% of users didn’t know how to update entries or start a tournament. It showed us the design needed better flow and clearer steps.
No onboarding: When they started, many individuals needed a simple step-by-step guide. Otherwise, they lost a sense of direction immediately.
Too messy: The majority of the users experienced the screen as cluttered. They desired a cleaner layout where only the essentials were made to pop out.

Visual Identity and Brand Story
The visual identity of Tournated is created to be swift, certain, and credible. The logo shows direction and speed through sharp lines in the same way that the platform serves to move users rapidly to get things done. Orange provides energy and excitement, and the dark blue brings balance and trust.
The idea behind the entire brand narrative is straightforward: sports management should feel smooth and easy. Whether it be the icons or the arrangement, each aspect of the design serves to make people understand and utilize the platform without any form of confusion. It is modern, looks brave, and says to the users, This is where you can manage your tournaments easily.

Design System
We built a simple and flexible design system for Tournated. It helps keep everything clean and consistent across desktop and mobile. The system includes reusable components, layout grids, brand colors, and clear typography rules. We used Portland Orange as the main color to show energy. Then, Prussian Blue and Antique Ruby add color to the color. Eudoxus Sans font creates a modern and comfortable-to-read impression.
We designed a 12-column grid to help the layout be clean. Every button, card, and section also has the same spacing and style. This helps developers build faster without confusion. This gives a clean and less cumbersome user interface to both users and admins.

UX Design
We designed Tournated to be simple and useful. We wanted to ensure that federations and athletes can handle anything, like tournaments, teams, and results, easily. The dashboard displays the entire picture yet remains clean. Coaches and athletes view various things to meet their demands. We kept the important actions just one or two clicks away.
Each page has a clear layout. We applied icons, colours, and spacing to ensure that users are not confused. It is mobile-friendly and desktop-friendly. We also did some testing with real users, and we changed accordingly to what they said. Now, it’s smooth, quick, and easy for anyone to use.

Results & Outcomes
Before the redesign, many users said Tournated was hard to use. A minor operation, such as adding entries to the database or dealing with tournaments, was slow and puzzling. The layout seemed congested, and individuals had no idea where to proceed.
We listened carefully and redesigned everything to feel clean and simple. Users are now able to complete tasks quickly, less confused, and more confidently. Every screen tells clearly what needs to be done, which makes the entire process smoother and stress-free.
